Paris Hilton Plans To Paint The White House Pink

Whether you love her or hate her, today almost everyone has to give Paris Hilton props. Simply because, there’s absolutely no one that can control spin the way Paris can. After Republican Presidential candidate, John McCain, released a campaign video comparing his opponent Barack Obama to certain celebrities like the Paris and Britney Spears, everyone held baited breath waiting for the Hilton family’s response, especially when it came to light that the Hilton’s had made serious contributions to the McCain campaign.

But the response when it finally came from the “Simple Life” star’s mother, Kathy Hilton, was coolly measured and totally lacking the drama we’ve come to love Paris for. Kathy’s response was good, yet it left Paris’ fans hungry for the final word from the blond heiress herself and now it’s finally here in the form of an video, produced by Chris Henchy of “Entourage,” and written by Adam McKay who brought us “Stepbrothers,” in which the oldest Hilton daughter lounges by a pool in a leopard print bikini and opens with the lines:

“Hey America! I am Paris Hilton and I am a celebrity too. Only I am not from the olden days and I am not promising change like that other guy. I am just hot. But then that wrinkly white haired guy used me in his campaign ad, which I guess means I am running for President. So thanks for the endorsement white haired dude and I want Americans to know that I am like totally ready to lead….”

And the crowd goes wild. Ok, not literally – but in this business timing is everything and this socialite celebrity has hers down to the millisecond. Paris’ response came out just soon enough that there’s still interest in McCain’s ad but before her mother’s statement can be taken as the final word from the Hilton family on the subject. As a result – instant viral publicity blitz. The funny little rebuttal is being circulated everywhere, for free or nearly so, while Foxnews.com said:

“McCain’s campaign reportedly is spending $140,000 a day to run [his] ad in battleground states.”

Still even if they lack the hotel heiress’ inherent public relation skills, McCain’s supporters are smart enough to try and grab onto Paris’ wave. McCain’s spokesman, Tucker Bounds said in reference to a part of the ad where Paris makes an interesting proposal for the countries energy woes (that’s earned her more than a few surprised nods from former critics) that:

“It sounds like Paris Hilton supports John McCain’s ‘all of the above’ approach to America’s energy crisis - including both alternatives and drilling. In reality, Paris Hilton may have a more substantive energy policy than Barack Obama.”

New York Daily News

The heiress’ plan, which involved a mix of limited off shore drilling and tax breaks for car companies devoting resources to research and development of hybrid and electric vehicles, is also the weakest point of the video for McCain’s camp to attempt to utilize in their favor. As Gawker points out, the video is funny in part, “because Hilton implies she has a sophisticated knowledge of an important geopolitical issue LOL!” Others, like the commenter Bobito, give Paris reluctant props but still slam the video’s energy proposal:

“She has every right to bitch slap Grampy. But they[sic] oil companies already have limited off-shore drilling rights, which they are not utilizing. Now they want access to the restricted areas, which they would utilize, apparently so that Americans would develop a placebo effect sense that the oil crisis was improving.”

Queerty

With only one tiny black mark on the video the hotel heiress still comes out firmly on top. Managing to win over some haters by showing a remarkable sense of humor and more than a little PR savvy, Paris remains the uncontested queen of spin:

“Protocelebrities take note: This is a example of how you take some mildly negative PR and spin it so masterfully your image ends up better polished than ever.”
